I'll give this a 4.9. Over all a very nice spa. I try to use it multiple times a week.
I gave this rating due to the lounger neck jets being a bit to low for me, you float in the lounger, and I wish the foot massage jets could be turned off.
The chair with the most small jets give a great intense massage. But wish there were neck jets in this location as well.
The pearl tub with tan surround are perfect.
So far in November due to the unique dual main circuit breaker design, I barely notice much if any increase in my power bill. The unit runs continously, which may be required for the salt water option.
The other small detail is it would be nice if the controls were facing the inside of the tub vs outward. But this is a personal desire.
I purchased many jaccuzi brand tubs in the past and was concerned about jet therapy performance.
No worries here. This tub out performs the jacuzzi.

Small but Mighty

I want to start by expressing how much we love Caldera Spas. Our first hot tub, the Martinique, was purchased in 2022 for our home in Maine. When we sold our house, we decided to stick with Caldera but were unsure which model to choose next: the Kauai or another Martinique.
After moving to upstate New York, we found a dealer in Ciano, and were thrilled by the great prices. However, that’s where the positive experience ended. The saying "you get what you pay for" truly applied to this dealership. Our first experience at the dealership in Maine was fantastic; from the moment we walked in until we had questions answered afterward, everything was great. Unfortunately, this dealership in New York was a different story. They do not handle the final hookup of the hot tub, which makes it difficult to ensure everything is running properly.
I was promised a tutorial video to assist with the setup process on the day of delivery (a Thursday). The next day was very windy, and I noticed our cover was lifting. I attempted to secure it using the snaps that were supposed to be attached, but they weren’t. When I called to address this, I was told they no longer secure the cover due to a lawsuit involving a previous customer who didn't want their cover secured, resulting in panel replacements. I expressed my frustration, asking why I hadn’t been given the option to have it secured and how I was supposed to keep the cover on during windy weather. One of the owners mentioned, “Well, I guess I can come out on Monday,” but his rudeness and dismissive attitude left us disheartened, and we preferred to handle it ourselves.
On Saturday, after the electrician finished wiring the tub, I realized I couldn’t find the tutorial that was supposed to be sent to me on Thursday. I messaged the other owner (who had given me his cell number to share delivery location photos) to inform him that I didn’t have the tutorial. He sent a video but stressed that he had gone out of his way to send it because he had no service. However, the video was for a Hot Springs model, which didn’t correspond to my tub’s controls. I asked for the correct tutorial and waited.
On Sunday, I tested the water and found that I needed to lower the pH and balance the alkalinity, but I did not receive any startup chemicals like we had in our first hot tub experience. With it being Sunday, nothing was open. I texted to express my frustration about not having the tutorial or the necessary chemicals.
Eventually, I received the tutorial via email, although I had not been informed that it would arrive that way. The owner texted me that they do not provide startup chemicals to balance the water. He then suggested that I should be grateful for his communication on a Sunday. I responded by saying that we clearly have different work ethics, as I respond to my customers 24/7. After that, I paused texting and left a voicemail, knowing I wouldn’t hear back until they opened on Tuesday.
On Monday, I located another spa dealership and purchased the necessary chemicals to balance the water's pH and alkalinity. I also noticed that the filter was very dirty. Given that I had dealt with well water in my previous hot tub, I knew that this water had just been added on Saturday and was only running to keep warm until Monday. I emailed them pictures of the filter and was told that it was factory-installed and had been tested before delivery, implying the dirtiness was due to my water.
Upon receiving a callback from a owner on Tuesday, he began the conversation by mentioning it was his wife's 50th birthday and that I had interrupted their event over the weekend. He insisted I should be grateful for his communication. I reminded him that he is not my friend; he is a service provider. I made a substantial purchase from them, and had he performed his job properly by sending the tutorial on Thursday, I wouldn’t have needed to text him at all.
I will NEVER purchase chemicals or anything else from this dealer again. While you might save money on a hot tub, you’ll be disappointed with the customer service.
As for Caldera I will rave about the quality of the tubs!

Helping a Disabled Veteran on the Path to Recovery

I'm a retired Army Veteran with 22 years of service as an Infantryman, Paratrooper, and Army Ranger. Years of wear and tear on my body, thousands of miles with the equivalent of my body weight on my back, months of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, coupled with years of jumping out of perfectly good airplanes has left my body in pretty rough shape. Orthopedic damage, arthritis, and tendonitis is just something I thought I was going to have to deal with for the rest of my life. At 55, I could hardly move without pain. Physical therapy, surgeries, and pain medications did little to help. Since getting our hot tub, it has become a daily must-do that has resulted in much reduced pain and more comfort. I wish we were convinced of the benefits sooner, as they have had a significant impact on my life. I feel like I am getting part of my life back, and all I have to do is sit and relax in my tub to make it happen.

A great way to relax

Our new Kauai is our third Watkins family tub (our other two were Hot Springs) and I can easily say this is the quietest, most comfortable, relaxing tub we have used. The jets are well designed and perfectly placed, the lighting pleasing and easily adjustable, and most importantly the water care system (we have FreshWater Salt) is the easiest to manage.
There are three different seating spots in this tub and we like all three. The lounge is just what you might imagine--a lounging position with hot water and jets placed to relax sore muscles from the top of the back to your toes. The other two seats have more specific jobs and one of them we find perfect for massage of the lower back.
We were impressed with the warranty and build quality on the Kauai. These tubs show clear advances in pumps, jets, and controls since our first tub purchase back in the early 90's. The control panel in particular is a pleasure to use with clear, easy to follow menus on a full color screen.
We are happy with our Kauai and certainly recommend Caldera spas.

Hoping to Use Soon - Poor Setup

We waited 6 weeks for our Kauai hot tub to arrive; the installers didn't take the time to level it (as the salesperson promised they would), despite their arrivial 2 hours earlier than scheduled for dropoff. We've compensated for the unlevel challenge by "overfilling" the hot tub so that we can start the water conditioning/chemical process before they come back to level it - per salesman instruction and recommendation.
Our jets surge. We've been babysitting the "Vanishing Act" for 3 days, at a minimum every two hours. The pump surges for less than hour and shuts off. There is no error code. The salesperson, techs, and owner of the spa business are all baffled and have no explanation about how to correct this. We've been on the phone constantly to get this hot tub up and running.
We took a class (husband missing work!) to make sure we understood the process and setup procedure, and have done our part to make sure that we can use this hot tub.
After finally getting into the tub, we've used it twice; however, it's been yet ANOTHER WEEK, and the crew that was to arrive to level the tub yesterday...didn't arrive. Fingers crossed they arrive today.
At this point, we are ready to ask Caldera to come and take back this hot tub because we are so frustrated with this process and lack of forward motion in correcting what's going on. We paid a nice sum of money for something that's inaccessible and we're unable to enjoy because the lengthy setup process.

My wife and I love the therapeutic benefits of our new hot tub! A soak before bed and we are fast asleep! With the salt system, it is easy to balance the water chemistry, and the water feels soft against our skin. We also received excellent training from our sales representative who explained how to monitor the water chemistry and make appropriate changes to it. It is an excellent investment in our health.

We have been using the Kauai Hot Tub for around 2 months and we simply ecstatic. We had this Same Hot Tub at our last home and we greatly missed the many benefits from it. After 3 years of missing it, we tracked down the local Caldera dealer and purchased the same unit. Better yet the unit has been upgraded over the years and we quickly realized them as soon as we started using it.

A little more thought and creativity needed by designers.

1) 3 position tub, only one headrest. Really?!
2) There should be a handle/grab bar on the side opposite the controls, the flat floor part where people step in and out of the hot tub needs to have something a person can hold on to while entering/leaving the tub.
3) The cover buckle-down straps were sewn on backwards. Not a real problem, but a nuisance.
4) The owners manual gives chemical instructions in quantity per number of gallons. Tells the user to adjust according their tub capacity. Really? Caldera can't afford to print a document which is specific for my $12,000 product?
5) In this day and age, isn't there a sensor that could be incorporated into the control panel that automatically provides a readout of Chlorine, pH, hardness? Time to enter the information age. Why should I need to buy and interpret dip sticks? The panel could even calculate qty of chemical adjustment needed. "Add 1 tablespoon Dichlor. Wait 30 minutes before entering spa."

I use the hot tub daily if not twice a day. The height of the sides make it accessible without stairs which can be useful when exiting the tub. The controls are easy and intuitive. The three positions offer a variety of therapeutic supportive jets. I experience that the price point and the quality of the features create value. The addition of two more grab bars to change from one seat to another would be a thoughtful design enhancement.

Retirement/ Relaxation after exercising

I've have had my hot tub (Kauai) model for about 2 years now as a retirement gift to me. I have come appreciate this purchase on every level. I usually enjoy my hot tub after cycling anywhere from 25-30 miles of high intensity cardio. Other times I get in about an hour or two before going to bed for pure relaxation. As a person that lives alone who occasionally has company, the Kauai is all that I need!

I use it daily. Good jet system, gets massage anywhere you need it. I downgraded it from 5 stars because the lights tend to be in your eyes. Many of them are located too high. Also, not crazy about dealer, very slow, very expensive service, but that's not a fault of the brand.

Best thing we could have purchased for our physical and mental health! Perfect for my husband and I and a friend or two. The jets are powerful, the lights are fun and it doesn't take up too much room in the backyard. It is saltwater versus chlorine, so upkeep does take time at first. Once you get the hang of the PH strips; it's a breeze.

My tub arrived with the salt system wires not working, waited three weeks for a tech to come out to repair. Documentation on start up, salt system and IQ system was all over the place and very confusing. Never received an owners manual had to track down on your website how to work the control panel. Cover the company gave me is cheep and flimsy and one of the lock down straps pulled out 3 weeks into owning it.

I use to have a Caldera hot tup but lost the use of it a few years ago when I moved. My old bones have been aching these day so I wanted a new spa. My area to place it was limited and I no lingered needed an 8 person spa so I chose the Kauai. I love the feel of the salt water compared to the chlorine based spa. I've had it for about a month now and use it everyday. The temperature being in the 10's and 20's don't bother me as the spa is only 5 feet from my house door.
It is a great stress and joint pain reliever especially after an all day ride on my motorcycle. I could not recommend a better from of relaxation.

What a difference a spa makes!

I had contemplated purchasing a spa for several years. After a lot of research and shopping, I purchased a Caldera Kauai spa. After a week of using the spa, I could not believe the difference in how I felt! The jet arrangement and the areas that each station focuses on is spot on. The jets are adjustable and can be as gentle or as strong as you need them to be. The maintenance has been easy and manageable. One soak is all it took to know this spa was of high quality and worth every penny. I am really pleased with my Kauai spa. My only regret is that I did not purchase it sooner!
